Privacy Policy
The Association of
Climate Change Officers (ACCO) values your privacy
and has adopted the following policy as part of our
commitment to protect any personal information
(“Personal Information”) which may be provided to
ACCO through this website and/or by other means. As
you use our websites, registration tools and social
networking groups, you may be prompted to enter
information when you:
- Create a user
name and password
- Use
personalization features
- Purchase a
product or service
- Register for
membership, an event or other product/service
- Participate in
online forums or discussions
- Provide feedback
The data collected
online from an ACCO source or tool is voluntary,
although some services are only accessible by
registering and providing user details. Information
collected may include your name, email address,
street address, job title, phone number and/or other
related demographic information. Except as described
in this Privacy Policy, ACCO will endeavor to keep
your information confidential. We focus on using the
information as part of ACCO’s service to you and its
mission to advance climate change professionals in
the private and public sectors. The server for this
website is located in the United States. By entering
information on this site, you are consenting to the
transfer of that information to the United States.
Your information will be handled in accordance with
ACCO’s Privacy Policy.
How Collected
Information is Used
ACCO’s primary
purpose in gathering Personal Information is to
provide organization staff with a better
understanding of the ACCO community so that we can
provide high-quality services related to our
mission. ACCO will not use or disclose your Personal
Information unless you have given your permission
except for the following purposes:
- to assess,
operate, and improve ACCO’s web site and online
tools and the services provided through them;
- to keep you
informed about ACCO and our services on this
website;
- if we are
required to disclose such Personal Information
by any applicable law, regulation, or legal
process;
- to provide
statistical reporting to partners, sponsors,
media and members.
ACCO will not sell,
trade, or rent your Personal Information to others
unless you have given your permission. With your
permission, we will only share your Personal
Information with carefully chosen, reputable, and
trustworthy third parties. We will follow the
relevant legal requirements and use all reasonable
precautions to ensure that only responsible third
parties see your Personal Information. However, we
are not responsible for any breach of security or
act or omission of third parties who receive the
Personal Information.
Your Personal Information may be used, transferred
to, or stored in countries outside your own. This
privacy policy will apply to such Personal
Information whether or not required under the laws
of each country.
In addition to the use of your Personal Information
as described above, we may also gather anonymous
information that may be used by us or shared with
third parties. This is information which does not
identify you, but may be helpful for marketing
purposes or for improving this website or the
services provided through it.
How We Work to
Keep Information Secure
ACCO takes
precautions to protect your information. When you
submit sensitive information via the website, we
make commercially reasonable efforts to protect your
information both online and off-line. When our
registration/order form asks for sensitive
information (such as a credit card number), we use
dedicated software designed to encrypt the
information and protect it. While on a secure page,
such as an order form, the lock icon on the bottom
of Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer,
Mozilla Firefox and Safari becomes locked, as
opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just
‘surfing’.
Access to ACCO
Services
ACCO provides access
to services and members contingent upon having
complete and current Personal Information for all
users. If a user is found to have provided erroneous
or outdated information, ACCO may request corrected
information from the user. If the user is unwilling
to provide complete and current Personal
Information, ACCO reserves the right to withhold
access to its services and members for security and
identification purposes.
Disclosure of
Aggregated and Other Information
We use IP addresses
and other user information to analyze trends,
administer the site, track user’s movement, and
gather broad demographic information for aggregate
use. We may share aggregated (i.e., non-individual)
demographic information with our partners and
advertisers. We use one or more outside credit card
processing companies to bill users for goods and
services and we will disclose your personally
identifiable information to these companies as
needed to process your orders and to respond to your
requests.
Links
ACCO’s web site and
other online tools contain links to other sites, and
other sites have links to ACCO. Please be aware that
ACCO is not responsible for the privacy practices
(or other practices, goods, services, or content) of
other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you
leave our site and to read the privacy statements of
each web site that collects personally identifiable
information. This privacy statement applies solely
to information collected by ACCO.
Notification of
Changes
If we make material
changes to our Privacy Policy, these changes will be
posted to our privacy policy page. You should review
this page regularly for updates.
