WASHINGTON, DC – November 3, 2010 – The Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO) today
announced the finalists for its first annual Climate
Leadership Awards, designed to recognize exemplary
leadership in response to climate change.
The finalists, Bonneville Environmental
Foundation, CB Richard Ellis, Chicago Department of the
Environment, Gold Standard Foundation, Iberdrola, and the
Sacramento Municipal Utility District, will be recognized at
a November 8
Gala
to be held in conjunction with ACCO’s two-day
Climate Change Leadership Summit, which begins on
November 8, 2010 at the Marriott Inn & Conference Center in
Hyattsville, MD. One winner will be announced for each of
the following categories: industry, government entities
(local, state, regional, national or international), and
non-profit community.
The Climate Leadership Awards program (“CLA”)
was designed to recognize organizations that have positioned
themselves as thought and action leaders in addressing
climate change. The finalists champion their respective
sectors in innovation, collaboration, governance, internal
and external education efforts, policy shaping, disclosure,
tangible effectiveness and thought leadership.
“ACCO established this awards program to
recognize best in class organizations whose leadership is
driving sophisticated response to climate risks and
opportunities across all sectors,” said Daniel Kreeger,
ACCO’s Executive Director. “These individuals have paved the
way to successful response strategies for the broader
community through education, forward thinking, innovation,
best practices and partnership.”
ACCO’s Climate Change Leadership Summit
brings together thought leaders from industry, government,
academia and the non-profit community to collaborate on
areas of convergent interest such as shaping climate policy,
aggregating interests in emerging technologies, establishing
best practices, developing methodologies and response
strategies, and seizing on opportunities for economic
development.
The Summit will host a series of interactive
sessions among more than 100 business leaders, government
officials, public interest groups and academics, including:
-
Michelle Moore – Federal
Environmental Executive, White House Council on
Environmental Quality (CEQ)
-
A.G. Kawamura – Secretary of
Agriculture, State of California
-
Claudine Schneider – Former
Congresswoman of Rhode Island

-

“During a time when the establishment of
comprehensive Federal climate policy has come to a grinding
halt, ACCO aims to leverage our community as a forum for
collaboration for executives addressing the business,
economic and environmental implications of climate change
for their organizations,” said Kreeger. “ACCO continues to
further establish a vibrant community that convenes to
develop best practices and methodologies, establish
standards and strategies for operationalizing supply chain
programs, aggregate interests on emerging technologies, set
standards for energy efficiency and clean energy
consumption, collaborate on adaptation strategies, create
new systems for managing waste, assess lifecycles of
products and operations, and more broadly, advance the
profession and function of climate change leadership in
organizations.”
