WGL Holdings, Inc. Partners to be
Headline Sponsor and Event Offset Provider
July 20, 2016 – Arlington, VA –
This week, the Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO)
has assembled top energy experts at its third annual East
Coast Climate Strategies Forum, a three-day conference
covering a myriad of topics from climate adaptation
planning, renewable energy, resilient infrastructure,
tackling risk and footprint in the supply chain, recent and
emerging policy development, and strategies for reducing
emissions.
Since 2009, ACCO has been helping
organizations to be more sustainable and empower their
leadership by building their enterprise capacity to
effectively address climate change. "It is critically
imperative that communities of practice come together to
advance and develop best practices in preparing for climate
related risks and opportunities," said Daniel Kreeger,
executive director and co-founder of ACCO. "Our efforts to
formalize job competencies and related training for the
climate change profession, as well as to help other
credentialing bodies integrate climate change preparedness
into their respective professions, will help businesses,
higher education institutions and communities dramatically
increase the number of climate smart decision-makers in the
workforce."
This week's keynote sessions at the
conference will include discussions on:
-
the state of the energy policy
ecosystem, with viewpoints on the Clean Power Plan,
state actions and implications of the Paris agreement
featuring former governors Bill Ritter and Christine
Todd Whitman,
-
how the Federal government is working
with state and local government on climate adaptation
and resilience planning featuring White House National
Security Advisor Alice Hill and senior officials from
EPA and HUD,
-
the psychology of climate denial and
skepticism and trends in American perspectives,
including a focus on the upcoming election featuring
renowned climate scientist Michael Mann and New York
Times columnist Andy Revkin, and
-
how and why the energy, defense and
national security communities are evolving to lead
climate adaptation and resilience initiatives featuring
Virginia Secretary of Homeland Security Brian Moran and
DC Public Service Commission Chair Betty Ann Kane.
The headline sponsor and offset partner for
this year's Forum is diversified energy company WGL, parent
company of both a regulated utility (Washington Gas) and
renewable energy entity WGL Energy, which provides wind,
solar and carbon offset options. WGL's growth strategy
includes an expanded portfolio of solutions that draws from
the full spectrum of energy sources, addressing increasing
demand from residential, commercial and government customers
for sustainable solutions that make energy an asset.
"The East Coast Climate Strategies Forum
takes place at a critical moment in the evolution of our
nation's energy ecosystem," said Dr. Lou Hutchinson, Chief
Revenue Officer at WGL. "As we face the global challenge of
climate change and seek to increase security and resilience,
ACCO brings together public and private sector energy
experts to build sustainable solutions driven by advances in
technology and policy. I am proud that through our
partnership with organizations such as ACCO, and through
WGL's own greening and renewable energy offerings, we are
able to provide sustainable energy answers for the future."
The Climate Strategies Forum series is an
integral part of ACCO's efforts to develop a climate smart
workforce in the public and private sectors. Attendees are
provided access to formal training, case study
presentations, interactive workshops, mentoring programs and
keynote presentations.
"ACCO is a professional society and
institution that is developing and delivering crucial
climate preparedness training across a range of disciplines.
It is helping us build the institution-wide capacity we need
to drive large-scale climate adaptation initiatives," said
Susanne Torriente, Chief Resilience Officer for the City of
Miami Beach. "These training and collaboration opportunities
help communities like South Florida prepare for the very
significant implications of climate change."
The East Coast Climate Strategies Forum
takes place July 18-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City.
