Appointment Builds on ACCO’s Leadership in Helping
Climate and Sustainability
Practitioners Address Risk and GHG Emissions in the Supply
Chain
June 7, 2013 – Washington, DC – The
Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO), the premier
professional development organization for executives across
sectors addressing climate change, announced this week the
addition of Nancy Gillis to its Advisory Board as the
company embarks upon a multi-year cross-sector initiative to
harmonize supply chain questionnaires. Gillis had recently
served at the U.S. General Services Administration and was
responsible for leading the Federal government’s efforts to
integrate sustainability into its purchasing requirements.
Gillis, who just joined Ernst & Young and
will be leading the firm’s supply chain activities in its
Climate Change & Sustainability Services practice, was
responsible for leading initiatives to incentivize suppliers
to the US government to reduce the environmental impacts
within their operations and throughout their supply chains.
While at GSA, she drafted policy recommendations on the use
of vendor sustainability criteria in federal procurements
and launched a government-wide training program to teach
federal acquisition staff relevant sustainability concepts.
She also established an online public/private partnership
program (the Sustainable Supply Chain Community of Practice)
to share sustainability best practices and increase the
competitiveness of small and medium businesses in various
market sectors.
"Nancy demonstrated exemplary leadership at
GSA in leading the implementation of the sustainable supply
chain requirements under the executive order issued by
President Obama in 2009," said Daniel Kreeger, ACCO’s
executive director. "Her efforts the launch of the
sustainable supply chain community of practice, and while
there, she served in an advisory capacity to our team that
has been working on harmonizing sustainability-focused
questionnaires."
ACCO’s work in the supply chain space, in
which Nancy has been an integral part, resulted in the
recent publication,
Challenges and Opportunities in Supply Chain Environmental
Sustainability Disclosure, a report that built upon
exploratory conversations designed to examine the prospects
of harmonizing sustainability-focused supply chain
questionnaires and conducted an analysis of dozens of supply
chain leaders and their sustainability questionnaires.
The report makes recommendations on how to
accomplish the harmonization goal, and also axddresses
establishing a repository for supply chain questionnaire
responses. As ACCO undertakes working toward the
recommendations in this report with industry and NGO
partners, Gillis will serve as a co-chair of the initiative
along with ACCO board member Jim Sullivan (Vice President,
Sustainability at SAP).
